Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry (TIPC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, is jointly constructed by formal Institute of Photographic Chemistry, Cryogenic Center and labs from Institute of Chemistry, Institute of Physics. Based on physical, chemical and engineering technologies, main focus of TIPC is on the research and development in the research area of Opto-electronic Functional Materials and Devices, New Technologies in Cryo-Engineering, Green Chemical Synthesis, and Energy Materials.
TIPC comprises Key Lab of Organic Opto-electronic Functional Materials and Molecular Engineering, Centers of Crystal Research and Development, Research Center of Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering, Research Center for Organic Optical Waveguide Materials and Devices, Research Center of Pulse Tube Cryocooler and Aerospace Cooling Technology, Center for Special Photographic Materials and dozens of other research groups. Altogether there are about 350 staff members in TIPC, among them 4 Fellows of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 Fellow of Third World Academy of Sciences, 4 holders of Talented Yong Scientists grant from NSFC and 16 holders of the Hundred Talents program of CAS.
This institute started to accept post-graduate students as early as 1978, and since 1985 it has offered positions for Ph.D candidates. It can grant Ph. D and master degrees in Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Condensed Matter Physics and Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering. It can also offer master degree in Applied Chemistry. Postdoctoral positions are also available in several research groups. Currently there are 50 supervisors, 400 post-graduate students and 10 postdocs.
This institute provides both excellent research and living conditions for students. All post-graduate students are awarded a good amount of stipends and offered dormitories (based on 2 sharing) equipped with living room, kitchen, washing room, shower, TV and air-conditioner, which are located either in the campus of the institute or in the campus of The Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (10 minutes walk to the institute). Those students with excellent performance also have chances to win the director scholarship every year.

Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering. Pulse Tube Cryocooler, Thermoacoustic Refrigeration, Mixed-refrigerant Refrigeration, Applied Superconducting Technology, Bio-medical Engineering, Large Scale Cryogenic Engineering and System, etc.
Condensed Matter Physics. Synthetic Crystalline Materials, Solid State Refrigeration, Physical Properties and Applications of Low Dimensional Condensed Matters.
