Prof. Dirk Ehrentraut from Tohoku University paid a visit to Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry (TIPC),CAS on Aug.16, 2010 and gave a wonderful lecture entitled “Solvothermal Crystal Growth Technology for Bulk ZnO and GaN”.

Prof. Dirk Ehrentraut reviewed the main methods of GaN crystal growth in recent decades, introduced the development of ammonia hot method of GaN crystal growth, discussed the influence of mineralization agents' Species or concentration on crystal growth, and introduced the development and research results of liquid extension method of Zno crystal growth.

Prof. Dirk Ehrentraut graduated from the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany and received a Ph.D. in Sciences from the School of Engineering of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2003. He is currently an associate professor at the World Premier International Research Center Initiative – Advanced Institute for Materials Research (WPI-AIMR) at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. Prior assignments include positions as visiting and research professor at the Tohoku University. His current field of interest comprises the fabrication of nano-to-bulk size group-III nitride and ZnO based crystalline materials by liquid phase technologies. Dirk Ehrentraut holds 15 patents and has published over 100 papers in journals, invited conference contributions, and several book chapters. His recently released book Technology of Gallium Nitride Crystal Growth (Springer 2010) is the first of its kind in the vast field of materials R&D in gallium nitride.
