Borates Borates with isolated B[BOND]O groups attract interest because they can possess excellent properties, especially if the isolated group is aligned. Although many borates are built from isolated B[BOND]O groups, only a few examples are reported to contain two or more kinds of isolated B[BOND]O groups. In their Communication on page 1414 ff., M. Zhang, S. Pan et al. demonstrate two isomorphic borates with isolated B5O10 and B7O14 groups and explore the similar topological structures of coexisting isolated B[BOND]O groups based on reported examples.
