The international conference on organic photonics & elctronics 2009/ the 11th international conference on organic nonlinear optics (ICOPE 2009 / ICONO 11) was successfully held in Beijing from 20th to 25th September, 2009. This international conference was sponsored by Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Science Foundation of China and Ministry of Science and Technology. It was organized by Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry (TIPC), CAS, Shandong University and Institute of Chemistry (IC), CAS. It was undertaken by Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS.

ICOPE2009 / ICONO11 is a conference series which was started in Val Thorans, France in 1993. It was held ten times in Europe, America and Pacific area successively. This was the first time held in China. ICOPE / ICONO conferences have been powerhouse for the exchange of viable ideas related to organic functional materials. The informal nature of the conference provides an especially fertile milieu for new ideas and collaboration. Chinese Academicians Chuangtian Chen, Minhua Jiang and Daoben Zhu were assigned as honorary Chairs. Prof. Xuanming Duan from TIPC, CAS, Prof. Xutang Tao from Shandong University, Prof. Yunqi Liu from IC, CAS was assigned as conference co-chairs. Scientists and young scientific researchers, who are from 17 countries and areas including USA, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Porland, Irland, China, attended this conference.

There are fourteen topics inculde Nonlinear opitcal materials, electronic optical material, multiphoton process, organic nanomaterials, polymeric waveguide & optical limiting materials, solar cell in ICOPE 2009 / ICONO 11. Numerous leading scientists were invited to give talks in the conference of ICOPE 2009 / ICONO 11. Prof. Chuangtian Chen, from TIPC, gave a plenary talk named “Deep-ultraviolet harmonic generation and application”. Prof. S. Kawata, who is from department of applied physics, Osaka University, Japan, presented “Plasmonics: a new functional photonics”. Prof. P. N. Prasad, who is from Institute for Lasers, Photonics and BiophotonicsDepartments of Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Medicine, State University of New York at Buffalo, USA made a plenary talk “Nonlinear optical processes for bioimaging and light activation in biophotonics”. Invited speakers included Prof. P. Gunter, F. Kajzar, A. Persoons, K. Clays, T. Kaino, H. Nakanishi, H. Takezoe, Y. Koike, M. Kuzyk, A. Jen , J. W. Perry, B. Keppilen, Yunqi Liu, Xuanming Duan, Yi Chen, Dechun Zou, Xiaogong Wang, Xutang Tao, Hongbo Sun, Chuluo Yang, who presented the current research highlights and trends. There are totally three plenary talks and fourty-three invitation talks, sixteen oral presentations and fifty-five posters in ICOPE 2009 / ICONO 11.

ICOPE 2009 / ICONO11 provided an international forum for the exchange of information among researchers and to stimulate growth in the research of organic photonics, electronics and opto-electronic materials including novel phenomena and fundamental studies. The success holding of ICOPE 2009 / ICONO11 increased our international position in organic photonics & electronics area. At the same time, young scientific researchers had a very good chance to discuss and communicate with leading scientists from the America, Europe and Pacific area. It will benefit the cultivation of young scientific researchers for our CAS and our country, it also promote the international communication and cooperation of young scientists.

In ICOPE 2009 / ICONO11, five best posters were selected by international scientific advisory committee and Mrs. Xianzi Dong from TIPC was awarded.
