Invited by Research Center for Laser Physics and Technology, Key Laboratory of Functional Crystals and Laser Technology, Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIPCCAS), Prof. Edward Kibblewhite from University of Chicago visited TIPC, CAS on May, 8 and gave an academic report entitled The Development of Sodium Beacon Lasers for Astronomy.

Prof. BO Yong gave an introduction of Research Center for Laser Physics and Technology to Prof. Edward Kibblewhite　before the report.

In the report, Prof. Edward Kibblewhite introduced the application of sodium beacon laser in astronomy as well as his team’s research progress in this area.

After the report, the researchers and students took lively discussion with Prof. Edward Kibblewhite on sodium beacon laser.

Prof. Edward Kibblewhite got his Astronomy Ph.D. degree at University of Cambridge in 1970. He is now a professor in Astronomy and Astrophysics Institute of the University of Chicago.
