Gelatin and Nano-micro Carbon material research group

About

Gelatin industry have already grown more than one hundred years .Developing a new method to pick up gelatin from animal bone instead of the traditional way has been a direction in gelatin industry progress all over the world. In 2002, our group made a great breakthrough in the traditional method for preparation of gelatin. The new method creates a great benefit in economy and society, realizing the low pollution and low consumption of power. This project has been appraised by CAS. Meso-porous carbon ball has been made using gelatin as raw material, and it can be used as electrode material in super capacitors. Because of its high specific surface area of middle pore and stable structure, this carbon ball can improve the ability of absorption and disabsorption for electrolyte and increase the capacitance of super capacitor. Our group has been researching in all kinds of carbon materials, especially micro-carbon coils supported by national 863 nano- project. We first designed a special stove and implemented production in our country. When the micro-carbon coils are used as the cathode material of polymer lithium ion battery, specific energy is more than six times of silver-zinc battery and reaches 200w/kg. Further more, we have a complete set of the supplements for gelatin sub-industrialization and measure, and have designed a special stove for preparation of micro-carbon coils. There are 15 staffs in our group including a professor, 5 research assistants, 8 PhD students and a guest professor who is an expert in polymer lithium ion battery. Over years, the group has produced 37 PhDs and 11 masters. More than 100 papers were published in gelatin and carbon materials and 10 invention patents were proposed (5 of them have been authorized).
