The mission of the laboratory is to pursue excellence in photochemistry and photophysics through innovation. We conduct the basic and applied basic researches in broad fields, aiming to the imperative national needs, Our key research activities are focused on supramolecular photochemistry, photocatalysis, photoelectric conversion, optoelectronics, and related devices. The laboratory dedicates to increasing the innovative potential and international competitiveness of the organic optoelectronic material and device industry in China, advancing the information technology and renewable energy industries, and securing sustainable development.
Development Goal
In accordance to the needsof national medium and long-term development of science, the worldwide trends of efficient solar energy conversion and organic optoelectronic materials and integrated devices, to become an international leading research center in molecular/supramolecular photochemistry, organic optoelectronic materials and integrated devices, an excellent foundation for the growth of young intellectuals and a forum for academic exchange.
We have undertook 98 research projects, of which 11 Major National Basic Research Projects (973) and 4 National High Technology Development Projects (863), 1Equipment Development Major Project of CAS, 39 National Natural Science Foundation of China funded projects, 21 projects of the CAS, 3 national security projects, 4 international cooperation projects, and 15 enterprise projects. We have published 423 SCI papers, in which 199 papers with impact factor greater than 2.0. We have also applied 94 patents, of which 56 were granted. We have been awarded two 2nd class National Natural Sciences Award and one 2nd class National Scientific Technology Progress Award.
Currently, there are 45 staff members in our lab, which includes 2 academicians of CAS, 14 professors and 13 associate professors.
We have been carrying out domestic and international cooperation research with many research institutions and famous universities. At present, there are 2 HKU-CAS Joint Laboratories, including "Joint Laboratory on New Materials" and "Joint Laboratory of Nano-organic Functional Materials and Devices". And we got 2 grants from the Croucher Foundation and 1 grant from Japan Science and Technology Agency.
Major Research Directions
■Photophysical and photochemical processes based on organic optoelectronic materials
Basic researches on the molecular and supramolecular photochemistry related to organic optoelectronic materials, including design and synthesis of functional molecules, principles and methods in the construction of organic optoelectronic materials and devices, modulation of optoelectronic functions, electron transfer, energy transfer and chemical conversion in supramolecular systems.
■Organic photonic functional materials and devices
Researches on the nanocrystal and polymer hybrid composites, waveguide devices, organic electroluminescent materials and devices and organic optical memory materials and devices.
■Novel materials and technologies for photoelectric and photochemical conversion of solar energy
Development of novel materials and techniques for dye-sensitized solar cells, organic (polymeric) thin film solar cells, and photocatalytic hydrogen production from water.
■Novel photocatalytic materials and new methods and technologies for photochemical synthesis
Development of novel catalytic materials capable of controlling the selectivity of photochemical reactions, and Novel strategies for photochemical synthesis.
