Prof. V. Ramamurthy from University of Miami VIsits TIPC

Update time:2010-09-16

Prof. V. Ramamurthy from University of Miami paid a visit to Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry (TIPC),CAS on Sep.16, 2010 and gave two  lectures entitled Chemistry in a Capsule: Photochemistry in a Confined Space and Light and Life: Real Life Applications of Photochemistry.

In his lectures, Prof. V. Ramamurthy introduced with examples how one can bring about remarkable changes on the photochemical and photophysical properties of different molecules by placing them within a well-defined water-soluble container and provide examples of how ‘the interaction of light with matter’ has changed the way we do things during the last five decades.

Prof. V. Ramamurthy’s research interests aimed at achieving similar selectivity in (photo)chemical reactions explore the use of readily available hosts that bear similarity to biological media. In his group, spatially confined cavities provided by crystals, zeolites, polymers (nafions), and water-soluble cyclodextrins (natural and functionalized), organic hosts, micelles and dendrimers are currently being explored as reaction media.
