Annual Meeting of Key R&D Projects of “Research on International PrimaryThermometry Measurement at Low Temperatures” & “The 1st Low Temperature Metrology Science Workshop” were successfully held

Update time:2019-06-19

On June 7th-9th, 2019, the Annual Meeting of Key R&D Projects of “Research on International PrimaryThermometry Measurement at Low Temperatures” and “The 1st Low Temperature Metrology Science Workshop” were successfully held in Beijing. Nearly one hundred experts from France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, Poland, South Korea, Russia and China attended this meeting.

Deputy directors of the TIPC, Ercang Luo and Xuesong Wang co-chaired the meeting. Deputy director Ercang Luo gave a speech and expressed warm welcome to the arrival of domestic and foreign experts. Science and technology counselor of the French embassy in China, Lemonde Pierre, expressed his expectations for the TIPC-LNE joint laboratory and the expectations of strengthening cooperation between China and France in the future. Marc Himbert, the academician of the French Academy of Sciences, spoke highly of the achievements of TIPC-LNE joint cooperation.

The opening ceremony of TIPC-LNE Joint laboratory the "TIPC-LNE Joint Laboratory on Cryogenic Metrology Science and Technology" was held. Academician Marc Himbert (LNE), Dr. Laurent Pitre (LNE), Prof. Richard Rusby (NPL) and Prof. Graham Machin (NPL) were awarded the “Honorary Scientist” certificate, and Dr. Laurent Pitre was awarded PIFI (“CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative”) certificate. Thanks to all the scientists for their outstanding contributions to Chinese cryogenic temperature metrology and China-French cryogenic temperature metrology cooperation.

Prof. Bo Gao presented the progress on the development of Chinese ultra-low temperature primary thermometry. In the implementation of this project, each goals has been exceeded fulfilled. During the discussion, the experts gave highly valued and recognized and also gave many valuable suggestions for the further progress and improvement of the project.

During the 1st Low Temperature Metrology Science Workshop, the researchers gave wonderful presentation on “Units for a "Quantum" World”, “The Redefined Kelvin”, “Using a Quasi-spherical Cavity for Thermal Physics at LNE”, “Progress Towards Single-Pressure Refractive Index Gas Thermometry of Helium-4 from 5 K to 26 K”, “The Research activities of Cryogenics at TIPC/CAS”, “Progress in Development of Large-scale Helium Cryo-plants at TIPC-CAS”, “Applications of Large Cryogenic systemsin Big Science Facilities”.

After the meeting, all the scientists went to TIPC in Langfang, visited the Single-Pressure Refractive Index Gas Thermometry Laboratory and Large Cryogenic Refrigerator Labortory.

The meeting interprets the historical changes in the international system of units and the development trend of low-temperature temperature metrology in the new era. Scientific issues have promoted the development of cryogenic metrology science and technology, strengthened the exchange of Chinese and foreign scholars in this field.

The work was financially supported by the National Key R&D Program of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the the International Partnership Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
