Professor Eckhard A. Groll from Purdue University Visited TIPC

Update time:2019-07-19

On the morning of July 15, at the invitation of the Key Laboratory of Cryogenic Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Physical and Chemical Youth Forum and Youth Innovation Promotion Association, Professor Eckhard A. Groll, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University and chairman of the B2 Committee of the International Refrigeration Society (Commission B2: Refrigerating Equipment), Doctor Davide Ziviani et al, visited the Institute of Physics and Chemistry and made an academic report entitled Towards High Efficient, Intelligent, and Flexible Building Technologies and their Equipment.

Prof. Ercang Luo, deputy director of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry, first delivered a speech and welcomed the academic exchanges of experts and scholars from Purdue University. This report starts with reducing the total energy consumption of residential and commercial building and provide an overview of the CHPB research activities and the unique facilities and testbeds utilized to conduct research. In particular, current research efforts concerning high performance equipment (e.g., heat pump systems, compressor), building system technology (e.g., comfort delivery, building envelopes, sensor), and indoor environment and human perception (e.g., indoor air equality, personalized control) will be introduced. At the meeting, everyone asked questions and made a heated thinking collision and in-depth exchanges.

Prof. Eckhard A. Groll is world-renowned for his expertise in the fundamental thermal sciences as applied to advanced energy conversion system. He is a 2010-2011 Fellow of the American Council on Education (ACE) and 2009-2010 Fellow of the Academic Leadership Program of the Committee on Institutional Collaboration (CIC-ALP). He has received numerous awards for his research including most notably the 2018 J&E Hall International Gold Medal in Refrigeration by the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) and the 2017 Peter Ritter von Rittinger International Heat Pump Award by the IEA Heat Pump Center.

Dr. Davide Ziviani is a Research Assistant Professor at the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories working with Prof. Eckhard A. Groll and Prof. James E. Braun, and serves as the Associate Director of the Center for High Performance Building (CHPB). He is also a member of the editorial board of the Organic Rankine Cycle Technology Knowledge Center.
